I just don’t know where the time has gone. Christmas seems just around the corner. At the moment I’m busy writing flash fiction.
I’m amazed that I can write stories in a hundred words. Not so long ago I never thought I could write a story in a thousand words, but with practice you find you learn to focus your mind, and select words which carry more that just one meaning.
By learning to write tight helps to improve your editing skills too. Good editing is so important when learning how to write strong so your story hits hard and stays with your reader long after they have finished the book.
I’ve learnt that I need to think hard about the contents of my story too. By thinking carefully how many ways I can say what I want to say in a 💯 words, I can paint a picture in less words, but make a bigger impact. As they say, a picture paints a thousand words.
There will always be crossroads in your life, the decision is always yours
I enjoy the editing process just as much as getting the story down. Editing is what brings the story alive.
I’ve had several pieces of flash fiction accepted now, and I’m now finding the skills learnt from these are impacting on editing my longer pieces of work.
As they say nothing goes to waste in the writing.
I’m still getting over my disappointment with my novel. I’m taking my time before returning to edit it again. This time it will need reducing down from 117k to just under 85k.
I’ve a couple of new ideas of how I can improve on the reincarnation of my novel ‘Stone Angels’, but before I start working on it again, I have a couple of things I need to finish first.
Have a great new week,
Happy Writing ✍️
